Bald Mountain Volunteer Carry

Before the 35th Anniversary Party at the NorthWoods Lodge on Saturday, August 24th, we'll be hosting an optional volunteer hike up Bald Mountain. Join us, alongside the VT Forest Parks & Recreation and the Green Mountain Club on Saturday morning at 10am to help us carry oak boards up Bald Mountain to replace the existing fire tower steps. This position is part of the Lyndon Economic opportunity AmeriCorps Program (LEAP). LEAP is a national service program that places AmeriCorps members with non-profit organizations throughout the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) of Vermont to support those organizations in building capacity and expanding their services that many communities rely on. Searching for Amphibians in the Demonstration Forest

Earlier this month, the Sustainable Forestry Interns took a break from running chainsaws to join herpetologist Jim Andrews on his search to document the species currently found in Vermont, town by town. The day we met Jim, he was on a mission to document some of the species thought to be living in Morgan, VT. After driving to the NorthWoods Demonstration Forest access in Morgan, we gathered with Jim and two volunteers to hear our goal for the day. Volunteer Gardeners Wanted!

NorthWoods' flowerbeds benefit insects and birds and provide a beautiful backdrop for school programs, camps and community events. We rely on volunteer help to keep them looking their best.
