July 1-3 Ages: 8-13 Three Days and Two nights on the Connecticut River. Campers in this camp will learn basic canoeing skills and backcountry skills as we navigate our way down the river while camping at designated camp sites. Campers will be immersed in the backcountry for this intense nature experience. NorthWoods Receives VCF Grant to Build Low-Ropes Course

The NorthWoods Stewardship Center is pleased to announce the receipt a $5,000 grant from the Vermont Community Foundation's Northeast Kingdom Fund. This grant will allow NorthWoods to update and grow their low-ropes course in order to provide expanded features to visitors of all ages from local schools, organizations and businesses around the state. The current ropes course, located in the Center's red pine plantation, was installed in the 1990s and is used with more than 1,000 individuals annually. Community Celebrates 30 Years of NorthWoods

On Saturday, June 8th, NorthWoods Stewardship Center in East Charleston celebrated 30 years of environmental conservation, education and stewardship in the communities of northern New England. Over 150 community members attended the event, which included a free community dinner, live music by celtic ensemble The Wind that Shakes the Barley, and a silent auction featuring items donated by local artisans and businesses. All Aboard:  Third Grade Students Explore Lake Memphremagog

How old is Lake Memphremagog? Where does all the water in the Lake come from? Who calls it home?  Nearly 300 third grade students from Orleans County searched for answers to these questions on the Discovery Cruise aboard the Northern Star boat this spring. In the search, students were invited to become lake detectives, provided with helpful tools – binoculars, discovery guides, watershed maps, identification books, and their own powers of observation.  During the quest, detectives had to abide by Captain Chris Johansen’s number one rule: to have fun!
