Over Thanksgiving weekend, flames engulfed the NorthWoods’ Boiler Shed. Thanks to a rapid response from the Charleston Fire Department, the blaze was contained but not before destroying our new wood-fired boiler, back-up oil furnace and much of our winter wood supply. Thankfully, no one was injured and the blaze did not spread to the main building or nearby tractor shed.
The fire struck just as the long winter heating season is beginning. We are working quickly to develop both short-term heating and long-term replacement plans. Insurance will help but will not cover the full replacement cost of the building or boiler system.
