Morgan Larson (they/them) is another Southerner who has found their way to Abenaki territory! Originally from Anadarkos-Caddo territory (so called Dallas, Texas) Morgan grew up loving the magic of the Blackland Prairie and Cross Timbers forest, having artistic, spiritual, and recreational relationships with these beautiful (and endangered!) ecosystems.
After graduating from the University of North Texas with a B.A. in Sociology in 2011, Morgan became a Master Gardener and Master Naturalist for Denton and Dallas county respectively. Through these programs they started working at nature preserves, non-profits, and public school districts teaching elementary ecology to public, private, charter, and homeschooled students. In 2020, Morgan moved to Paugussett and Quinnipiac territory (so called New Haven, Connecticut) where they were an environmental educator at a combined urban farm, charter high school, and environmental education center for four years.
Feeling burned out and needing a break from teaching, Morgan found NorthWoods in the Summer of 2023 where they became a backcountry professional trail crew assistant leader for the Conservation Corps. Falling in love with Abenaki land, NorthWoods, and working with tools, Morgan was thrilled to find the opening of the Watershed Program Coordinator position. To this day they are in awe that someone(s) believed in them enough to offer them the position, constantly grateful to be a part of the NorthWoods family. When not staring in wonder at the beauty around them in the NEK, they can be found wandering the forest at night, holding their cat Juniper like a baby, or crying over grasses at Sentinel Rock.
