Heard about Hydroseeding?

Hydroseeding is a direct seed application method that sprays large concentrations of seed on the land by using a trailer-mounted tank and sprayer system.The machine sprays out a slurry of seeds and water and sometimes (but not always) mulch and fertilizer. The sprayer is used to apply seed in a manner that minimizes the potential for movement of seeds from the site. NorthWoods Hosts Vermont Coverts Cooperator Training

Right on the brink of spring in the Kingdom NorthWoods hosted the Vermont Coverts Cooperator Training for three days of education and peer-to-peer learning. The Cooperator training, which has been offered around the state by Vermont Coverts since 1985, teaches landowners and interested Vermonters about forest and wildlife habitat management. NorthWoods and Vermont Coverts have partnered in the past on cooperator trainings, webinars, and other landowner education programs as a way to broaden the reach of both organizations. Winter Trail Grooming Wraps Up

March 30 - Grooming operations have concluded at Willoughby State Forest, NorthWoods, and Dashney Nordic Center. It was a stellar season, and we hope many of you had a chance to enjoy the snow and these beautiful networks. We are excited to welcome two new members to the Riparian Lands Crew, Alex Sehl and Jake Gallinger. Riparian Lands Crew Member Jake Gallinger Jake recently graduated from SUNY College of Envionmental Science and Forestry with a degree in Wildlife Science and will be joining the Conservation Science Department for the first time after serving as the Youth Conservation Corps Crew Leader for the Moosehorn NWR crew last season. Staff Visit the NY State Tree Nursery in Saratoga

This month, Jess Colby (Riparian Lands Project Coordinator) and Brooke Fleischman (State Seed Coordinator for the Intervale Conservation Nursery) visited the New York State Tree Nursery in Saratoga to learn more about their seed collection, processing, and storage techniques. The Colonel William F. Fox Memorial Saratoga Tree Nursery is the oldest state forest tree nursery in the country. The nursery currently produces more than 1.5 million seedlings annually and maintains more than 200 acres of seed production areas and orchards across the state. NVU Announces Sustainable Trail Building Education Partnership

Snow, Snow! Winter Trails Open

While January was looking pretty dreary snow-wise, this past week has delivered some nice conditions to begin laying down a real base for our ski and snowshoe trails, and the forecast looks encouraging for it to stay that way!  According to staff member Charles Hill who in charge of trail grooming: We have finally gotten enough snow to groom our trails!
