Dr. Carol A. Moore, former president of Lyndon State College, has been appointed as Executive Director of NorthWoods Stewardship Center by the organization’s Board of Directors. Dr. Moore was officially welcomed by NorthWoods staff and supporters at a reception at NorthWoods on Friday, February 21, 2014.
After stepping down as Lyndon State College president in 2011, Dr. Moore became involved with NorthWoods as a volunteer, assisting the Board in finalizing its strategic plan. In 2012, she was named Director of Strategic Initiatives and served in that capacity until becoming Executive Director. Dr. Moore assumes her new responsibilities as NorthWoods celebrates its 25th Anniversary.
Established in 1989, NorthWoods annually provides environmental science and recreation programs to over 5,000 children and adults, employs more than 60 young men and women in the Conservation Corps, and provides conservation and land management services for local landowners. NorthWoods’ work is anchored by 1500 forested acres in Charleston, home to its Forest Stewardship Institute.
This year, NorthWoods is embarking on several capacity building initiatives to increase services to the local community. Dr. Moore will lead NorthWoods in this expansion and the implementation of its strategic plan.
