Our friend and board member Pavel Cenkl is doing it again! In 2015 he ran his first Climate Run – 240km across Iceland from south to north. In 2017 he ran a grueling path on the Arctic Trail through northern Scandinavia. And this summer, he will be bringing climate resilience and awareness close to home with a 500 mile trek, biking down the full length of the state of Vermont in a single day, then running back north via the Long Trail.
On June 20th, 2018, Pavel will tackle the ‘200 on 100’ 1-day bike ride from from the Vermont/Canadian border in North Troy, all 215 miles south along Vt Rte 100 to North Adams, MA, during the day’s approximately 15 hours of daylight. A number of cyclists have completed this feat in the past. However, the next day, on the morning of June 21st, the summer solstice, Cenkl will trade his bike in for running shoes and step onto the Long Trail, to make his way back north to Journey’s End.
What makes this journey so special for us is that Pavel’s 2018 Climate Run will be raising money in support of three conservation non-profits in Vermont: The Green Mountain Club, the Catamount Trail Association, and us, NorthWoods Stewardship Center. That means that every dollar donated to his campaign will be evenly split three ways at the end of the summer and distributed to these great organizations which help encourage conservation, education and recreation in the state of Vermont.
