Forest Landowners of the NEK

2020-07-01T13:32:53-04:00July 1st, 2020|Forest Stewardship Institute, Highlights, News|

Who is responsible for stewarding Vermont’s forests? We all play a part, but when the rubber meets the road (or leaf litter), it’s YOU, the individual forest landowners, who care for most of our state’s forested land. At NorthWoods, we’ve known this for years, and the results of our recent Forest Landowner Survey reinforced this. Keep reading to hear some of the insights and statistics from 27 landowners who responded to the survey. (if you would like to participate, the survey is still open! Click here to start!) Landowners who [Read More...]

While we often highlight the youth crew leaders and members who train with us and work on USFWS Refuges across New England during the summer season, we also hire for specialty seasonal positions and internships. These employees are trained by and work alongside USFWS scientists on specific conservation goals for that refuge. At the Rhode Island National Wildlife Refuge Complex, this includes Nicole DeFelice, a Shorebird Biological Technician who was slated to be the leader of a Shorebird intern crew this year, but due to COVID-19 is covering the full [Read More...]

The NorthWoods Stewardship Center stands in solidarity with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) seeking justice and equality. We recognize that our mission to connect people and place is not separate from this pursuit. We have been listening and learning from our local and national community as we seek to turn outrage over the unjust murder of George Floyd into progress in dismantling systemic racism. We believe this is not a political stance, but an affirmation of our commitment to human rights, essential to building vibrant human and natural communities [Read More...]
