Snow, Snow! Winter Trails Open

While January was looking pretty dreary snow-wise, this past week has delivered some nice conditions to begin laying down a real base for our ski and snowshoe trails, and the forecast looks encouraging for it to stay that way!  According to staff member Charles Hill who in charge of trail grooming: We have finally gotten enough snow to groom our trails! Invasive Plant Control in the Clyde River Watershed

Project Overview The NorthWoods Stewardship Center, located in the Clyde River Watershed in East Charleston, Vermont is an organization with a strong sense of place. As a conservation and educational organization in the North East Kingdom of Vermont, many of our programs and projects emphasize the importance of local stewardship to promote healthy ecosystems. The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department Habitat Stamp funded invasive plant control completed in the Clyde River Watershed was a collection of projects that addressed the spread of non-native plants in the area. 2022 Westmore Mountain Challenge Results

Jess Colby knew since she was a kid that she wanted to work in conservation. Women’s Crew Digs in on NEK Trails

The Women's Crew has been making a splash as NorthWoods' newest local day crew, working on projects throughout the NEK. Women have long made up a larger-than-usual proportion of NorthWoods crews and staff at large but this is the first year the organization has hosted a women's-only crew, consisting of three college-age leaders and three high-school-age members. Crew leader Ash Cray has previously led crews for other organizations and said she experienced many challenges being respected as a woman in a male-dominated field.
