In this second episode of Wonders of Wood & Water, in partnership with the Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium, Wyatt introduces viewers to vernal pools. He takes us on a visit to the NorthWoods vernal pool, where we are taking data measurements for the Vermont Center for Ecostudies, and describes the transient nature of vernal pools and their importance to local amphibians like wood frogs and salamanders.
Wyatt tasks the home audience with investigating how pollution impacts amphibians with a fun experiment, linked to below the video.
The links below takes you to the Amphibian Skin activity in a PDF with many other activities.
The Amphibian Skin activity is meant to follow-up the “Amphibians and Vernal Pools” video. This assignment is written for a teacher so working with a parent-supervisor is recommended. Amphibian Skin is provided by the Education Department at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium and found on the website howtosmile.org. https://assets.speakcdn.com/assets/21… OR https://www.howtosmile.org/resource/s…
