While honoring the old ways is part of what we do at NorthWoods, we are also ready to embrace new technology to reach a new goal. For winter 2015, our goal is to provide easier access to more people to the outdoors, and specifically to the NorthWoods outdoors, in a medium of winter travel that suits the landscape and all sorts of outdoor enthusiasts. To reach this goal, we’ve updated our three-pin cross-country skis to a much more user-friendly fleet, with NNN easy click-in bindings.
These skis will be available free of charge for students who participate in winter recreation program at NorthWoods, and will be available for use by adults and families throughout the winter for a small donation. This new cross-country fleet features a wax-less base, a wider under-foot platform and shorter sizes, perfect for exploring on and off-piste around the outer-most reaches of the NorthWoods campus.
Contact Education DIrector Maria Young to set up a program for your class or crew, and look for outreach events in 2015 where we’ll lead intermediate tours to some of our favorite spots.
The ski fleet update was made possible by generous donations from the Craftsbury Outdoor Center and Lakeview Elementary School, as well as grant support from Ben and Jerry’s and the Vermont Community Foundation. Come explore with us this winter!
